Before and after- cymatoceras nautiloid

Here’s the before and after with the nautiloid that realized was crystallized inside, so I decided to slice it. The polishing process made a difference in bringing out the features inside. I’m not sure if this came from the Fort Worth formation (I think it is) or Grayson. Johnson County TX. Cymatoceras sp. outdoor pics are before polishing (I’m not sure if it shows up in order of my upload, doesn’t look like it initially).

That is awesome!  I've yet to do that with any of mine, will Mercer do that for nominal fee?  Only drawback is ending up with twice as many fossils.:shakehead:

That’s a drawback? LOL! I know what you mean..the nice thing about slicing is that it’s quite easy and doesn’t take much time. The polishing process is a bit more involved and requires some time. I think he would be open to it

I broke up a partially agatized coral “rock” from the river this weekend. Hoping it was hollow like yours. It wasn’t. Lol. But still pretty rad. Used about $30 polishing two small pieces. Gonna look into a used tile saw and play around with the next one I find.

Hey that still looks really neat! I hate cutting specimens if it’s the first or only one I’ve found, but when I find a lot of them (such as my nautiloid finds), I don’t mind making an exception. I’m looking for a big log of pet wood now..lol
