GMR Strange Rock

Hi everyone,

During my recent productive trip to GMR in NC, which I’ve previously shared, I also found this rather large rock. I was considering trying to split it since there’s a case of one full fossil fish impression being found from there that way, but something about it, namely the weird “etchings”for lack of a better word, seems off and potentially important on its own. Bone with bite marks? Native American sharpening stone? Unless those are just caused by my shovel which seems a bit unlikely. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Doesn't look like bone or any sort of artifact to me.

I see no reason not to look inside for more evidence. This looks like fish bits and something larger that hasn't been preserved, or perhaps exposed.

Thanks; was worried it might be an artifact or something, and just wanted some clarification before I try to split it.

You should wait for a clear consensus to build.  I'm not an expert in the fossils of this area.
