Congratulations Dave. Great report and finds, but the large coiled nautiloid is by far your best find. I'm guessing it represents a new species for DSR. I'd like to see it in person, to help ID it. I'm sure Tim and I will out there again in the spring. Have a great 2024!

Thanks Jeff! When you guys make it back this way I will be happy to show it to you. Yesterday's trip was a good way to end this year's hunting adventures. Have a Happy New Year Jeff!

Dave, glad to see you were able to get out (I know that's not always possible this time of year up there) and that you found lots of good stuff.

Don, I am very surprised by the lack of snow this time of year. But as I write this, it is currently snowing now.....:smilodon:

I hope it doesn't last.

I finally got around to trimming down my specimens so they are not on gigantic slabs and was able to get some better pics. In the process i had some wins and losses. I ruined a Greenops as it flaked off the matrix after a couple blows to the rock. But i revealed another one that was hidden in a separate chunk. I also popped out a very nice Grammysioidea arcuata that was complete without ruining the hinge!( I have found quite a few of these but the hinge seems to always break off, so yes this was a big deal to me.) Parts of other, not so special finds chipped or broke but I managed to keep the best 3 Dipluera intact which was my main goal. I have a friend who is supposed to be stopping by that is supposed to prep these for me. I can't wait to see them done.

The first pic is a tiny Dipluera pygidium that may be attached to a whole one. It is very small though.

You  brought back some real treasures, Dave. I'd love to see those Dipleura when prepped. You've got some terrific bivalves too. Beautiful. Thanks for the photos. And happy new year to you and your family.

  • Thank You 1

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Thanks Mike! I have to say that this last trip was probably my most satisfying trip to that site ever. As far as finding fossil treasure goes. My favorite trips have always been the meet ups with forum members. I wish I could have shared the experience with others. Happy New Year to you and  Leila!

My friend Stephen stopped by my house and I was able to show him my collection including my latest finds. Stephen is a Paleontologist at a local Museum. He was very impressed and excited about the Nephriticeras Cephalopod. He said that he has only ever seen a segment of one. So I gave it to him as a gift. I told him I could tell he appreciates it, and I wanted it to have a home where it would be treated as such. He was very happy. He also identified a Brachiopod that I had posted in fossil ID as Megastrophia concava. I sent him of with 4 Dipluera to prep. He said it might be awhile as he has a bunch of prep jobs ahead of mine. I told him I wasn't in a rush. But I admit I can't wait to see them in their  beauty!

Apologies for any confusion caused by the earlier comment - it just looked so similar from that angle! It is a very spectacular find and it was quite generous of you to give away such a prized fossil. Looking forward to what the new year brings!

No apology necessary! I really didn't mind giving that to my friend. He is a nice guy, I know he enjoys it. Honestly I thought it was kind of ugly.
