  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Megalodon Tooth Necklace?

It's real, but looks more like a Mako tooth, to me.  No serrations. No bourlette. So, not a Meg.
Wait for other opinions, though, as I am not a shark tooth expert.

Does not look like Megalodon. More like White shark lineage species Carcharodon.

Does it have serrations? It doesn't seem to.
Great whites would have serrations.
Mako sharks do not.

Looks like serrations, so it could be a Great White.

Great whites would have serrations.
Mako sharks do not.

If Im not mistaken C. hastalis is often referred as Mako, but is actually early White shark without serrations. And serrations started to evolve in the lineage.

If it helps anyway , the tooth is quite thick and more than 2 inches long

Like I said, I'm not a shark tooth expert or even that knowledgeable.
So thanks for that clarification. :)

Would you be able to take close up picture of the serrations? From angle of first pictures.

Those might be weared, but it might help.

Im personaly not able to pinpoint exact species, but perhaps someone is able to help.

The crown looks real but the way the root and crown meet does not look right to me. Also, there is no bourlette so either it is not a meg (perhaps Great White) or they faked the root and forgot to fake a bourlette.

Definitely not a meg.  I see many red flags in the crown and in the root.  At best, this is a very worn, repaired, puttied, painted great white tooth and at worst a total fake.

I personally think the root has been altered (or added), but let's see what others say.

No, I think the crown is a real Great White crown, but I think something has been done to the root.  Great White teeth in my area rarely have roots, so I think they probably either added one or repaired it.
