Sonickmonx
Anybody ever seen anything like this? Due to the site it's from could be anything from Cretaceous - Pleistocene. The site is well known for paleocene croc coprolites so my first thought was these were footprints of something in a croc coprolite, but that doesn't quite make sense. Maybe it's a burrow of something in phosphate? Maybe it's an indention of something? Any ideas?
Rockwood
Either burrowing or feeding traces is my thought.
Carl
This is very intriguing! I've got nothing, really. Burrow is certainly a possibility, but my mind is leaning towards impression.

DPS Ammonite
Looks man made; possible impression of steel cable or rope. Looks like bubbles indicating man made. 2 2 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. See my Arizona Paleontology Guide link The best single resource for Arizona paleontology anywhere. westcoast
You could try burning it, see if it smells like tar or plastic...

This is a really good thought, I didn’t even consider it might be man made… I’ll follow that lead tonight and see if it melts or has a smell when exposed to flame. Rockwood
Watertight connector and a 10-gauge stranded wire could explain it all right.
Sagebrush Steve
And what about all the diamonds embedded in the matrix (looks like asphalt to me). Or maybe they are just glass

Well, what were the results? Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough."
