dillincisneros
Hey, I need some help in identifying this specimen. I found it by a tree I was digging out in my yard a few months back, and I don't know what it is. I took it to a gem and rock store once, and the guy there put some liquid on it to test it, but he said it wasn't coming back as anything, and he couldn't tell me what it was. Aany ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you .

Fossildude19
I agree. Looks like quartz or chert/agate. Some sort of cryptocrystaline mineral. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Kane
Quartz and its many forms can take on a whole spectrum of colours. I wouldn't say rare as it is one of the most abundant minerals, but rarity aside it can truly be an aesthetic wonder to behold. 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
dillincisneros
Well thank you all for the information about this I really appreciate it alot thanks again. Could I have this like shined up or make it look better and more shiny than how it is now by any chance
Kane
You could consider having it polished using a rock tumbler. I've seen similar minerals tumbled into nice cabochons that can make pendants. 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
daves64
I think the guy in the rock shop needs to find a different job. 2 Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.
patelinho7
Some would say quartz has no value (as your rock shop guy clearly did), but I for one would keep that piece in a heartbeat! I love the colors on yours. I am jealous. It's quite a display-worthy stone.

Brian James Maguire
If it was polished it would be a really beautiful stone
