SE Texas - Valentine's Day Finds

So I went out to a spot yesterday on Valentine's Day after work here in SE Texas to a spot with newly exposed gravel after our recent flood. That's where I found the deer tine on the ID section. Thought I'd share some of what else I found.

1. A nice bison tooth that's 2.75 inches in length. Nice colors to it. Big Ole boy.

2. Glyptotherium osteoderm. Bigger than my last one

3. Cervical vertebra -  solid mineralization  - thinking Equus but will research it

4. And a crazy little solid vertebra that's unusual. One day I'm going to really try hard to identify some of these really unique vertebrae that I have.  But I'll post this to the ID section.

Other stuff as well like turtle shell fragments and other bone frags. I didn't have much time to check this spot out good so hopefully I can this weekend and find something better.

That’s the cleanest definition in a rosette osteoderms I’ve seen. Beautiful!

Bison tooth is huge!!

Nice Bison tooth!  We have found several that have similar colorful mineralization on the river.  That Glyptodon scute is very nice as well.

  • Thank You 1
