Hello Folks,

I am slowly learning my way around the website and observed that I had not introduced myself.  I am a retired Environmental Interface Research Chemist who has been a lifelong fossil enthusiast.  I grew up in Cincinnati and was fortunate enough to take Paleontology and Mineralogy classes at the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History.  After the lectures they also distributed free samples of the discussed specimens to students.  It is unfortunate for young people today that such resources do not appear to exist any longer.  I have discovered that one means of fossil identification that is very useful is to compare your specimen with images on the internet.  I am therefore seeking to place good quality images of my identified specimens on the Fossil Forum for this purpose.  I also repurposed an old TV cabinet into a fossil display in a manner that others may find useful (photos on the site).  I look forward to a lot of fun!!!

Cpagak,  Thank you for the welcome and I am sending you photos of the cabinet.  I used 2'x4' peg board for the back and wings with 1" strips of 3/4" pine to make the frame.  I made shelves out of 5/8" cedar fence board ripped to 1.5" to 2.25" wide.  Shelves had holes drilled in the back nearly all of the way through and I found packs of 50 peg board hooks on Amazon that could be purchase for ~$15 (the 4 packs will eat you alive).  I trimmed the peg board hooks to less than the width of the shelf with a bolt cutter.  I found very nice cabinet lights on Amazon for less than $10.  If you are interested I can send you more details about the construction.  The second photo is of the upper section of the center section

Among other things, the cabinet has kind of forced me to categorize my collection and I even found fossils I had forgotten about that I had packed away.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
