Lance & Roz's 6-26-10 Hunt

Saturday Me & Roz headed out to our secret fossil creek. This creek cuts through Pennsylvanian Age layers and is notable for often giving up unique and well preserved stuff.

Roz is scanning the rocks for goodies:

I find a nice piece of colonial coral (Striatopora) and a solitary horn coral (Lophophylidium or Caninia?):

Roz finds a large sponge:

Roz then finds probably the best quality Cinclidonema texanum snail I have seen from there:

I find a full trilobite (Ditomopyge?) impression in a soft nodule:

Roz also found a trilobite and another things she'll post...

The preservation at that site is amazing! Whole trilobites, whole gastropods....

I'd like to see the details on Roz' "ashtray", when it's cleaned up.

That snail is awesome as is the rest of your finds. The preservation on the snail reminds me of the material that comes out of the Brazos, Stone city fm.

The trilo is great as well..

Adding some of my other finds and the ashtray cleaned up. It looks

about the same though.

In this heat, you can't beat hunting a creek either.

I like the texture of that sponge; don't know the terminology, but "mammallions" came into my head...

Great finds, guys. Love seeing the paleozoic stuff and the Ammonoid and sponge are really cool. *tries not to burst into tears after looking at the Trilobite*. :)

Thanks all of you..:D and Shamalama, right before he found that, I found one

but it was severed in half.. sad.gif

JK, I think that it may be a Dermosphaeroidalis. It has one distinct large "leg".

They don't all have legs that come from that creek. I could be wrong on that

ID.

Regardless, I know you love your sponges so the next time I go there

(probably won't be till the fall), if I find one it's yours. I think we have a total of 5

so far from there. I think there is a strong possibility that I will find another.

Do you want one?

Thanks to all of you that commented..

This is a concretion that came from that creek too.

It looks even more like an ashtray but I am going

to keep earrings in it.
