ladyofborgher
Hello everyone, I'm quite new here but it was recommended I come to this site from another site. I've never fossil hunted before, but I know a fair amount about paleontology due to a personal interest in the topic. I would like to learn fossil hunting, but with a group of people who are knowledgeable about the matter. I'm wondering if anyone knows of groups that do fossil hunting in the New York or Philadelphia area?
Fossildude19
The New York Paleontological Society holds regular field trips to sites in NY and PA. Usually a very good time. Also, ... a few times a year, we usually have a number of Fossil Forum Group Hunts, in upstate NY. Keep an eye out, as we usually have some posts about them. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." That's awesome, I'll definitely be attending the NY Paleontological Society's March meeting! I'll keep an eye out for the Fossil Forum Group Hunts. Is there a specific topic for them on this forum? Or a Discord chat of some sort? It has been quite a few years since I used a forum haha

Darktooth
Hello, and welcome to the forum from New York! You may also consider looking into joining local Rockhounding clubs. Both Pennsylvania and New York have multiple clubs. Dave 1 I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

Jeffrey P
I agree with the suggestions being made, especially NYPS and DVPS- great places to start. And local rock and mineral clubs usually do some fossil hunting outings, at least the one where I live does. Welcome to TFF from New York City's northern burbs. You'll find lots of great information here. Good luck on your outings with whichever group(s) you decide to join. 1 1
