suburbanamateur
Hi, I am a graduate student from Chicagoland looking to get into fossil hunting. I recently started school in Wisconsin and I am hoping that I can make some good finds in this state. I have tried fossil hunting in the Mazon Creek area of Illinois, but I only ever found a single horse tail fossil and a hermit's shanty over there. Overall, the area is a pain to search unless you have a boat to access the islands in the lakes and I am hoping I will have better luck in Wisconsin while I am here. I for sure i have found a baby Dino laying in its half shell. Nope. No dino, no shell. Eggs are not lumpy. I see no tail, no head, no neck, no rib, no hip, no scapuli, no arms, no bones of any kind. A baby dino should have all of those present. I don't see any of them. P.S.-- Soft tissues like skin, lungs, muscles usually rot away or are eaten by scavengers, insects and bacteria. Bone is what's usually fossilized. Edited March 8 by Mark Kmiecik Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them! Agateyes
Welcome to the forum, I’m unsure whereabouts in Wisconsin you are going to school but I would recommend putting estabrook park on your fossil hunting list. There are some very unique specimens and estabrook also has some millerite geodes as well. Happy hunting and good luck with school, Regards, Mike
