fossil or rock

Hi everyone!

A buddy of mine recently bought this as an "unknown fossil" and sent me some pics to see if I could ID it. My ID is that it's a rock and not a fossil but I figured I'd post it here on his behalf in the desperate hope I'm wrong.

Apparently it was found somewhere in East Texas.

It has the appearance of an "amoeba " nodule of flint or chert. These are very common in Texas and elsewhere. I have purchased them from Texas for flint knapping projects.

This one is from Eskdalemuir, Scotland.

Okay, I can still give it cool name. I can work with that!
