Old Dinosaur Tibia Fossil (Missing Documentation)

Sorry that I don't have details of this specimen's provenance, but I'm trying to help an older friend remember what exactly this is a fossil of. They've had it for over 20 years, and believe they may have acquired it from online auction site in its early days.

All I've been able to determine so far is that it is likely a dinosaur tibia. He's quite a fan of hadrosaurs, but I really have no idea if it's possibly from one.

It's a fairly large specimen, about 26 in/66 cm long and 5 in/12.7 cm wide at the widest point: 20240229_133758.thumb.jpg.1a9a15129e250a0059c7c6721428a51f.jpg

I know this is quite challenging without supporting information, but unfortunately any information related to this is missing, and was likely lost in a house fire that occurred years ago. Just hoping to get lucky and see if anyone has any sort of insight.

Other photos attached (sorry that they seem to just be rendered full sized without a smaller preview, though that's more of a form limitation than my doing).

Thanks..

interesting one. I really do not know all the sites in the States with Hadro-Material...

But we have had some "similar in color" from Harding County / Dakota (Edmonto). The other ones we have had from Montana and Utah had been different in color

This are my 5 cents

I think it is a femur.  I looked for the 4th trochanter and couldn't find it.  But I see in the 3rd from the last photo that the area where it should be is broken.  Hadrosaur is a good guess.  Not a big one.

Thank you both for your insight. The femur is an interesting consideration. I'm not at all experienced with distinguishing similar bones, like via the specific markers you've noted (trochanter), but it's a good lead and something I can look into further myself and maybe see if I come to the same conclusion by examining it in person. Very helpful.

Just wanted to clarify this specifically. You're saying that if it is indeed from a hadrosaur that it would have been a smaller one, like perhaps a juvenile?

Indeed... a teenaged hadrosaur
