Howdy all,

I have reason to suspect that this is a heavily crushed stigmaria I found while fossil hunting today.

I was in the mammoth cave region of Kentucky in a creek where I found plates of coal up to two feet long as well as this fossil. I also went down into an exposed lake bed of Nolin lake which was down the hill from the site I was at and found several of what I'm guessing are mississippian crinoids.

I can see what looks like root trace/scars consistent with this being a stigmaria. The blob part presents a real problem though. What is internal, external, proximal, distal in a blob?

I think a couple of those scars in closer viewing look more like rootlet attachments, the preservation might be obscurring it. Could also be some other things jumbled in that specimen. I dont see a vascular trace and parichnos but thinking maybe a stain which gives the appearance of a 2nd depression/parichnos??

Would this still determine the specimen as being a stigmaria?

I took another look at that particular scar and found that the spot you had pointed out is a depression.
