Welcome to the Forum. :)

I see some sort of bivalve fossil there. Maybe some natives will be able to say more, about genus or species.

I don't recognise it I'm afraid. Possibly part of a trigoniid?

Somerset has a bunch of different localities - anything more detailed for location?

It's a big area.

It'll be Jurassic, probably Middle but I'm not familiar enough with facies from the area. (There is Carboniferous in the county too but I'm pretty sure it's not. )

Hi, thanks for your reply, it was found in Nunney in the Mendips in Somerset. Reading in to the area a bit more I think it is Carboniferous there

Yes, there is a rather famous Carboniferous outcrop there with fissures containing much later Triassic mammal remains. :) But there's also Jurassic Inferior Oolite overlying it which is what your rock looks like.

Fascinating, thank you! We also found some echinoids and several brachiopods there too :)

It reminds me of Discoides subuculus du Cénomanien, but it does not fit with the stratigraphy... Size is an important factor for a determination.

Yes, Middle Jurassic yellow limestones. Probably the Inferior Oolite.

Nice finds,:)

I was born and raised in Somerset but never collected at that location, sadly.

I agree that the mystery item could be a trigonid bivalve, or maybe a part of an ammonite outer whirl.

The echinoids look like Holectypus depressus, frequent in the Middle Jurassic.
