Jaybot
As the title states, I'd love to see how TFF community displays or stores their micro/pretty small fossils. I'm trying to get ideas how to display mine, so I thought I'd start this thread- I'm sure I'm not the only one that will enjoy the fresh ideas. MarcoSr
The vast majority of my micro/small fossils are in gem jar displays, which I house in map chests. I have a few displayed in coin holders in coin holder sheets. Marco Sr. 1 8 1 "Any day that you can fossil hunt is a great day." Yoda
@MarcoSr, @Randyw How do you know what's what with all those gem jars ?? Is there a label on the underside of each one ?? MotM August 2023 - Eclectic Collector
Coco
Hi, I put my very small fossils in empty capsules, which I group by species (and by site) in a box. Each capsule contains a small label with just an order number, and in the plastic box there are the normal labels of everything in the box (name, place, order number, floor). I don’t have a picture yet. Edit : I also have an Excell file to list more information per specimen (current or fossil) ( @MarcoSr) Coco Edited March 22 by Coco 1 ---------------------- OUTIL POUR MESURER VOS FOSSILES : ici Ma bibliothèque PDF 1 (Poissons et sélaciens récents & fossiles) : ici Ma bibliothèque PDF 2 (Animaux vivants - sans poissons ni sélaciens) : ici Mâchoires sélaciennes récentes : ici Hétérodontiques et sélaciens : ici Oeufs sélaciens récents : ici Otolithes de poissons récents ! ici Un Greg... MarcoSr
1 hour ago, Yoda said: @MarcoSr, @Randyw How do you know what's what with all those gem jars ?? Is there a label on the underside of each one ?? I put labels on the back of each display with the relevant time period, formation, site etc. information. Also, each gem jar has a number under it that is contained in a master Excel spreadsheet that lists the species in it, in addition to the time period, formation, site etc. information. I currently have 202 completely filled gem jar displays, as well as more than 20 Riker mount displays and numerous coin sheet holders in my Excel spreadsheet. It became too cumbersome years ago to identify each specimen in the gem jars, so I mostly list only the rare stuff now. I easily have over 100,000 vertebrate specimens in the gem jars from over 150+ sites worldwide. I also have sewing boxes and Tupperware containers filled with specimens. I've easily collected over 1 million vertebrate specimens in 50 years of collecting and have donated hundreds of thousands of them. Marco Sr. 3 "Any day that you can fossil hunt is a great day."
