A proto-amphibian sitting in a drawer in the Smithsonian has been formally described, named after the beloved muppet Kermit the Frog.

 

Of course, longtime forum members know the real Kermit is in the possession of @Ludwigia

Second Kermit fossil, of course. Jim Gardner's Hensonbatrachus kermitti is the first.

True, but at the genus level this has to be a win for Kermit fans.  We all know it isn't easy being green.

Was a win for my coauthors at the Smithsonian who got to meet the original Kermit puppet while taking press photos!
