Hi everyone,

I found this fossil at the beach in the Netherlands in the province of Zeeland. It looks like a shell but I would like to know more about it!

Thanks!

I think it's a rugose coral.  It looks to be a nice specimen missing just a bit of the tip.

These Paleozoic fossils were carried from the north by glaciers.  That is a nice specimen of a rugose coral.  Identifying such fossils to genus and species requires making thin sections to study the internal structure, which of course means cutting them into pieces.  I'm confident you wouldn't want to do that, and making sections requires specialized equipment and skill.  Unfortunately it's hard to be certain of the source or age of the fossil without a specific identification, but the Silurian formations exposed in places such as Gotland are a good possibility.
