The entire specimens dimensions are roughly 50x80x60cm

Can someone help me properly identify?

Hi,

Maybe you could put some text with your photos? Some information like the place where it was found (California is a vast territory), the age of the land, the size etc...

And also explain why you think of Desmostylus, because for the moment I see only a vague form without being able to distinguish it.

Wonderful find! You should definitely contact the folks at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural history. Mammal skull: Yes. Desmostylian skull: Maybe. A tusk would also be expected for walruses.

Very nice looking occipital condyles exposed on the back. Looks like a tough prep. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you're not experienced in this. Desmo, walrus, or whatever, looks like a great specimen.

Hi,

looking at this scan of Neoparadoxia skull, I do not see anything in your photos that speaks against Desmostylian.

Still curious to hear (and hopefully see) where this goes. Could definitely make vertebrate fossil of the month!

Best regards,

J
