Real Barasaurus besairiei ?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Im really interested in bidding for this Barasaurus besairiei , but before I try this and maybe win a fake or heavily restored and painted one, I wanted to share it here to hear your opinions.

Its from the Sankamena formation,

24 cm in lenght.

I am definitely not an expert, but if this is not completely fake, it is restored, especially the hands and feet. The fused bones of the middle finger in the last picture also veer me away.

Thanks !

But im still not sure if its just well prepared, or completly good fake. Tim, @Fossildude19, do you have an idea ? I mean you are an expert on nearly everything.

Take a close look at the bones. Are they porous? Is their surface structured differently from the matrix? That would be a good sign.

Take a cotton ball with some acetone and wipe over the bones. Any added paint will be washed off.

I'm pretty sure the ribs, vertebrae, humerus and femur are ok, I'm not sure about the carpal bones and phalanges.

Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC).

and, the color of the bones..., if they are dark at the rim of the nodule and fine grained this is always a sign that there was something done...

This is not mine, its from an online auction website. So I cant do that. But from all what I've read, its most likely painted.

I am far from an expert in ANYTHING.

I agree with the others, - the hand/foot look suspect to me.
