New Members Thurgo Posted May 5 New Members Share Posted May 5 (edited) Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. Near Sydney Wondering what this could be, and if I should contact someone? I have a ton of this stuff in varying condition along a stretch of beach I started going to a bit ago. Found the source. Have found a ton of pretty interesting stuff that I'll post some other time. I'll contact someone local if I need to. Edited May 6 by Thurgo
jpc
interesting structures there. I don't think they are bones, but we might be able to help you more if you told us where you found these. What continent and even country and even more detail but not too much. (Oh, I just saw the info in the tags... Nova Scotia)

Rockwood
That area is known for coal mining. If that helps.

New Members Thurgo Posted May 7 Author New Members Share Posted May 7 Longer piece. Notice the globular pyrite nodule on this piece. The same thing appears above the main bit still in the ground (red)
New Members Thurgo Posted May 7 Author New Members Share Posted May 7 Same thing. Seems better preserved, but is different to the other pieces. This one has fewer 'bean' structures and has more dense black material.
Ludwigia
This all appears to be plant material. I think you should check into your local laws about fossil collecting before you continue on there. I believe they are pretty strict in Nova Scotia. 1 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Rockwood
Costal swamps were frequently inundated by storm surge from cyclones (hurricanes). These shapes could be clasts ripped up by the storms.

Yeah they're strict, but it's eroding very badly, so I took em. Fossil museum near me is opening soon and was planning on driving everything out there anyways.
