Petrified wood?

It was found in a creek near by an area known to have marine life fossils

Definitely wood, maybe palm, but a better look at the cross section (end grain) may be needed to be certain.

thanks, I am trying to find someone to help me with the cut, I see some lineal fractures on the surface so I hope it doesn't crumble.

Even better pictures of the ends as they are now, would be helpful.
