Hi there,

New to the site and complete novice when it comes to fossils. I found this fossil on the beach at Hunmanby Gap near Filey in the UK. Does anyone have any idea what it is and from what period please? Thanks

Very nice find, especially for one of your first fossils!  I agree with @oyo, it is a pycnodont fish.

@Fossildude19 might be able to tell us more about it.

Thanks for the tag, but I am more focused on Early Mesozoic and Paleozoic fish.

@Al Dente  or @MarcoSr are much more knowledgeable about pycnodonts.

I agree with what has already been said. Nice find! The stratigraphy of the area is Late Jurassic, Oxfordian.
