Auspex
That's going to come in handy! Does it have a stand? Jimi
It came with a sturdy stand, but not real easy to make fine adjustments. Looking at my dremel drill press as a better stand.
Fossildude19
Jimi, Good images. Does it have a built in light? How was the software? User friendly? Thanks for sharing your images with us. Jimi
Jimi, Good images. Does it have a built in light? How was the software? User friendly? Thanks for sharing your images with us. Regards, It has 6 LED's built in. Software looks pretty good so far. easy to use. The focusing is a little tricky at first, but works fine after you get used to it. Indy
There's a page on another fossil discussion list focused on comparing a few hand-held scopes...with imaged fossils. For the benefit of those who haven't seen this page... here is the link: Click Here Flash from the Past (Show Us Your Fossils)MAPS Fossil Show
steve p.
Nice photos. I wonder, though, if more light would improve them. I look forward to being able to photograph with my Lomo stereoscope/DSLR combo, but I've had problems and the vendor is assisting. Looking forward to seeing more photos. Steve. BobWill
This post reminded me that I got this EyeClops microscope at a toy store last year for about $20 and removed the guts from the plastic case then mounted it on an adjustable arm with a clamp because it was too hard to hold it steady. So I took this picture of the tip of a small gastropod with a mm scale to try it out. This is taken with the 100X setting. I'll try to find something small enough for the 200X and the 400X settings. BobWill
I believe I misspoke about the price of this microscope in the last reply. The smaller, blue EyeClops facing away from the camera, halfway down the arm was the $20 one. I think the microscope at the top with three settings was closer to $30. The small one displays on a TV and I haven't figured out how to get it on a computer yet. The bigger one has a display to see what you're capturing and loads the image into a usb memory for loading. The 400X setting on the large scope is only in focus for something flat as this picture shows. This is the first two whorls of the same gastropod (about .5 mm) and goes out of focus where it is farther from the lense. Still, for the price these may be a useful way to display micro fossils. Indy
The fossil imaging with the Dino-Lite are mine and the other images using other scopes were taken by other members of that discussion group I prefer the more expensive Dino-Lite and it serves a purpose for some imaging that I need to capture and of course the advantage is to be able to see what the picture will look like before clicking I use this expensive toy sometimes depending on this or that and I should mention these are not for everyone so not pushing or suggesting anyone buy one. For those with dial-up Internet connections please forgive file size of this image. It is an animated 1.2MB demo for the Dino-Lite Here is a link to view sample images captured using the Dino-Lite My link Yes...I purchased one to the more expensive Dino-Lite scopes but keep in mind that unlike most...I'm anal about imaging and create websites with fossil images. And No I don't use this toy as often as I originally thought I would I'm really not into True Micro photography but enjoy Macro fossil imaging and for macro size fossils and even larger it does an adequate job without leaving the comfort of my plush computer chair Barry Flash from the Past (Show Us Your Fossils)MAPS Fossil Show
