Northern Sharks
Here are some mineral samples I picked up on a hunting trip last weekend. I'm about 3 hours from the "mineral capitol" of Canada (Bancroft ON) so a lot of the field trips my club has are mineral more than fossil related. All photos include a dime for size reference. Enjoy. 1) Magnetite (1 of only 2 magnetic minerals) 2) Garnets 3) Epidote covered rock and 1 large crystal 4) Actinolite 5) Pyrite 6) Tremolite (glossy dark green in person) 7) ????? (I thought the band through the rock was cool, but I forgot to ask what it was) There's no limit to what you can accomplish when you're supposed to be doing something else
Rain1950
#7 looks like goethite replacing pyrite with patches of quartz
Northern Sharks
Thanks for the tip. Goethite is on the list of minerals from the site. I'll find out this week as my club has a meeting Wed. night.
