sixgill pete
I am going to be in Myrtle Beach this Friday and Saturday. Problem is I will have a very limited amount of time Saturday morning to look for some fossils. I know there are several beach areas and other places, but I do not know exactly where. I could use some help. I will be staying near 14th street south on Ocean Blvd. Can anyone give me a heads up on where there is some beach or other collecting nearby? I would appreciate all the help I could get and if any of you ever come to eastern NC I will be glad to help you out. I think the Cherry Grove Pier (?) is supposed to hold some nice teeth, but I've never hunted Myrtle Beach before...Good Luck!!
jax
I have always just walked the beach and found teeth. Its kinda a tide thing, some days are good, others are bad. You need to be out there when the tide is going out, and also coming in. Seems to wash them the best. Look for areas of gravel or shell deposits, thats where the big ones hide. Train your eyes! Tarheel59
Pete Cherry Grove is in North Myrtle area. I used to stay in place next to pier and it was very good for teeth. May want to take small screen too sometimes digging holes you can find some cool things. May want to take that bucket to get some stuff to search for micro's once you get back home. Lots of endocasts brachs and gastros can be found depending on beach conditions. Not sure last time beach was replentished so that the more recent it was done makes your chances greater. Look for gravel as the tide is going out and wade in surf for rolling teeth. Not even sure about the rivers or creeks there I know the Santee is there but not sure if any gravel bars are accesible... Good luck
