Monster Auriculatus Tooth

Recommended Posts

I was able to acquire this superior tooth over the weekend. Auriculatus teeth of this size and condition are nearly impossible to find. This is probably one of the top five auriculatus teeth in this size range that I've handled. Enjoy!

Does anyone else here have some 3.5"+ auriculatus teeth? Let's see them!!

:drool::drool::drool:

For a fossil to earn the triple drool treatment is quite an accomplishment! Amazing tooth! :)

What a wonderful menagerie! Who would believe that such as register lay buried in the strata? To open the leaves, to unroll the papyrus, has been an intensely interesting though difficult work, having all the excitement and marvelous development of a romance. And yet the volume is only partly read. Many a new page I fancy will yet be opened. -- Edward Hitchcock, 1858

That is a great tooth, what are the measurements on that one?

DO, or do not. There is no try.

Fantastic tooth -- I have a prejudice for "medium" size shark teeth in the range of 2-4 inches, because I believe they are just better preserved, more attractive, etc than larger teeth..

But with this Ric, you could start changing my mind. Beauty AND size, what a combination!!! :D

EDITED -- And Harry, you demonstrate that there are all sorts of definitions of beauty-- that Sokolowi is gorgeous

Attached photos of some of the 3.5" or larger rics in my collection. I think these have likely been posted at some time in the past.

This one is 3 7/8, and the other with the severe feeding wear is 3 1/2 (not counting the missing tip).

A lot of great teeth guys. I don't have anything that can touch those rics. My best angustiden is over 4", but no rics there yet. Maybe in time!

I have only got one big ric. It's a 3 7/8", pathological tooth from Morocco. Probably would have been over 4" if it weren't for the tip damage. A hydration crack on the front was filled.

MERAVIGLIOSO!!!

More than damaged, the two tips seem to me pathologically rounded ;)
