Some New Mazon Creek Fossils

RCFossils

Recommended Posts

I have not posted anything for a while so i figured i would show off a few newer Mazon Creek fossils that i recently purchased from an old collection.

The first fossil is a fantastic example of the rarest jellyfish that has been described from Pit II. It is named Anthracomedusa turnbulli and is a type of box jellyfish.

This is one of the best fossil associations that I have ever seen out of the Mazon Creek deposit.

It is an example of the rare phyllocarid Kellibrooksia macrogaster surrounded by several medusa jellyfish Octomedusa pieckorum.

This may be the best example of the very rare fish Parahaplolepis cf. tuberculata. I have only seen two other examples of this rare fish from the Mazon Creek deposit.

Hi Rob, Oh my! I havent been able to visit the forum much over the past several months but it is a real treat to get back and see such a stunning post! My eyes are now bugged out a little more than the tuberculata fellas are! WOW! WOW! Thanks for sharing the new acquisitions--very special examples indeed! Regards, Chris

Wow, that fish has a lot of very clear detail.

I'd never seen two different animals in the same Mazon Creek nodule either - more great specimens in an already incredible collection.

Great finds! Love that fish and the jelly! Very cool to see a jelly that is not an Essexella asherae.

Thanks for sharing.
