Also called a Dobson fly. That is a male. The females don't have those showy mouthparts.

Cool, I have seem bugs like that before but much smaller and with out those spears this one was a big one. Thanks guys. B)B)B):)

That's awesome. Haven't seen one in a long time. Dobson Fly is correct. Helgramite (as edd said) is the larval stage (I think we called them go-devils when I was a kid). Helgramites are good for fish bait.

Hellgramites are GREAT fishing bait, for those that fish with bait that is. Many flys try to immitate them. When fishing the Susquehanna river at night in the summer, wadeing. They will often climb out of the water and up your leg to morph. Now I'm not generaly not afraid of bugs but that really creeps you out. They're so big and nasty, especially in the dark. Yikes!
