Coco
Today, I ask for the help of who knows shells. I made an Excell board recapitulating all the shell species found by Glibert in the Miocene of Touraine (France), by adding their families. But I am not able to find some of them. Who could say to me to which families belong the following species ? - Acteonica lajonkaireana (Acteonidae?) - Circulopsis dautzenbergi - Solituda stratella. Thanks a lot and have a nice week-end. Scylla
Coco, It is somehow refreshing to get a google search that results in no results! Good luck on your quest! Did you try sending an email to your local Malacology department?
piranha
Hi Coco, Shells are certainly not my area of interest but it is always fun to solve a riddle. I found two out of three for you. The last one is proving much more difficult to unravel. I tried various spelling combinations to discover the origin and the species name striatella did lead to Eocene-Miocene gastropods from France. You might recognize one of those genera as synonymous with your fossil? Good Luck! Acteocina lajonkaireana (Basterot, 1825) Order: Opisthobranchia Family: Cylichnidae RE: P. Lozouet, J.-F. Coco
Scylla, the museum of my town has not a lot of publications, and there is no specialist of malacology. I don't know in ma region where I have to write... Piranha, thanks a lot for these 2 finds. I "returned" Google during more than half an hour yesterday to look for the families of these three shells, unsuccessfully. The problem with the shells of Touraine, it is because there was no revision since the papers of Glibert... And he is far from indicating all the species. Furthermore, he does not speak about otoliths (I found several species) or gastropod opercules. For otoliths, I fetch in Dirk Nolf's papers, who remains the big European specialist of this subject. At the moment, only Solituda remains a mystery Coco ---------------------- OUTIL POUR MESURER VOS FOSSILES : ici Ma bibliothèque PDF 1 (Poissons et sélaciens récents & fossiles) : ici Ma bibliothèque PDF 2 (Animaux vivants - sans poissons ni sélaciens) : ici Mâchoires sélaciennes récentes : ici Hétérodontiques et sélaciens : ici Oeufs sélaciens récents : ici Otolithes de poissons récents ! ici Un Greg... Coco
Perhaps Solituda is an Acteonidae. What do you think about that ?
