worthy 55
Does anyone have any idea why one does not find any or very few mammal fossils there? It's my bone!!!

Harry Pristis
I have no idea either. Most vertebrate fossils on the riverbottoms are exposed from where they were buried in clay in sink-holes. It may be that a small stream like the upper Withlacoochee has not cut into enough sink-holes. Plus, a small stream is more readily hunted by divers. Or, maybe there were fewer dead-fall sink-holes or pipes/fissures or watering-holes between Quitman and the Suwannee -- a topographical phenomenon. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
