mikeymig
I put this trilobite up on my FB page today and thought that you trilobite collectors might want to take a look at him. THIS IS THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER TRILOBITE FROM THE DEVONIAN OF NEW YORK AND THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST MONODECHENELLA I HAVE EVER FOUND IN 30 YEARS OF COLLECTING! THIS TOP GRADE SPECIMEN IS FULLY INFLATED AND IT WAS PROFESSIONALLY PREPARED UNDER A MICROSCOPE WITH AIR ABRASIVE TOOLS. IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE TOP OF THE THORAX YOU CAN SEE A HEALED BITE MARK ON BOTH SIDES. THE BITE MARKS WERE POSSIBLY MADE BY A PHYLLOCARID, CEPHALOPOD OR FISH. THIS RARE TRILOBITE WAS FOUND IN THE SPRING OF 2010 IN A LIMESTONE ROCK LYING IN THE MIDDLE OF A COLD STREAM. THE DETAIL IS INCREDIBLE WITH BOTH GENAL SPINES AND ONE EYE (RIGHT) THAT WAS DAMAGED SOMETIME IN THE TRILOBITES LIFE THEN HEALED OVER. WITH HIS HEALED WOUNDS, MISSING EYE AND LARGE SIZE, THIS "OLD MAN" WAS A WARRIOR. MONODECHENELLA macrocephalus Stumm (1953) Trilobita - Proetida - Proetidae Age - Middle Devonian (408 – 360 million years old) Formation - Windom Locality - Livingston County, New York Country - USA Size - Trilobite - 2", Matrix - 3" x 3.25" Many times I've wondered how much there is to know. led zeppelin
