BobWill
Oh, sorry I meant to title this "Dugong, fern, and coral..new species for my collection" Made great new friends this weekend when some folks from Tennessee came down to help me clean those ammonites out of Spring Creek in Cooke County Texas. Lucky for me they came bearing gifts. Some nice crystals (they are mostly rock hounds) but also these fossils with partial IDs which I'd like to verify and add whatever information you can. This is the Dugong from Peace River near Zolfo Springs FL Coral from Dickson TN I'll have to post the fern on another page

Auspex
I think the unknown fern might be Sphenopteris. Nice! BobWill
Thanks Tim and Auspex. Now I just need to know what part of a Dugong that is and what age these sites represent. Finally found Sugar Town Mine, it's not in Haleyville, just it's PO Box. It's Pottsville Formation, Pennsylvanian Edited October 26, 2011 by BobWill
bear-dog
The Dugong should be listed as Trichechus Manatus [Manatee]and represents a rib section. You should list it as late pleistocene in age.Nice finds by the way. Bear-dog.
ckmerlin
I think the unknown fern might be Sphenopteris. Nice! I agree with Sphenopteris and a very nice one to "A man who stares at a rock must have a lot on his mind... or nothing at all'
jsq
The Coral looks very familiar. If you want more and are in the Dickson TN area most red clay rocky areas will have some. I helped a friend with a 200 lbs piece - relocated for a yard rock. Some of the polyps will have small quartz inside. Once and a while you will find solid stuff that is worth cutting and will take a polish.
