sixgill pete
Headed out to GMR this morning to meet fellow forum member and another friend for a few hours of digging and sifting. Rick was already there and digging away when I arrived. A few minutes after I got there, I heard him scram he had 3 good teeth in his screen, all very nice mako's. Over the next few hours we found some nice mako's a few tigers and Rick found 2 very nice great whites. As for me I found a 2 1/8 mako, my largest from GMR a few more smaller mako's, a couple of tigers and a few goblins that were in good enough shape to keep. Many, well worn teeth were left behind. We also use 1/2 mesh screen, making it easier to sift through larger amounts of gravel. I also found a very nice 1" lower great white with very nice serrations. But the best find was after Rick left, A partial Anomaeodus phaseolus jaw plate. While the teeth are relatively common, this is the first plate I have ever seen from there. Todays finds: My big mako: Lower Great white: One of the better Goblins: And the coupe de grasse; the Anomaeodus phaseolus jaw plate: As I was leaving, I had the pleasure to meet another forum member, John Hamilton and his family who were there on a family outing. It is always great to meet new forum members, and especially great to see the whole family involved. Hope to see you around again soon, John. greel
Nice finds. I've seen alot of different things come out of this creek, but never a tooth plate like yours. Must be a super rare find for GMR. -greel
Sharkbyte
Hello Sixgill Pete, That mouth plate find is so awesome. Now I can actually put some sense of understanding to the little funny shaped teeth. (and a species name to boot) Thanks for the posting. RickNC
Hey Don that thing is awesome. Never seen one before. I wish I had stayed a bit longer to see it in person. My GW's came in at just under 2 3/4 and just under 2 1/2. I also found two partial whale teeth and what I assume is a worn whale tooth of pretty good size. Also found a meg posterior tooth which is a bit worn but still my first for this location. It was a good morning and I was fortunate enough to find a good hole as soon as I arrived. Both of those teeth look great in pictures, but looked alot better live in person yesterday. Were you in that same spot or did you guys move after I left? yeah, it really isn't all that big, maybe 3x1 1/2 inches. it was about 15 or so yards back the way we came, just scratching the surface layer of sand and gravel above that hard gray clay. Really great teeth, man im itching to get into that creek. any time you want to try it when your up this way, just send us an IM Man oh man. What a GREAT day. Thanks Lloyd. It is always nice to be able to put a face to a name. The wife and kids had a great time even though we didn't find anything as nice as the teeth you and Rick found. They enjoyed themselves so much that they begged me to take them back on Thanksgiving even though I told them the water would still be high from the rain on Wednesday. So needles to say we packed up the Excursion and drove to Greenville and we were in the "Run" by 8:30 AM. I'll be posting pics of our keepers shortly. I may try to get one more trip in before I head to Jacksonville, FL the last two weeks of December. I'll IM you if I do and see if you want to meet up.
