I'm sure that your fossil is showing fin supports of some sort, and that's exciting. I've been doing a little internet research to see what I could find, but I haven't come to any conclusions. Do you have the paper on the morphology of Semionotus from the Newark Supergroup by Olsen and McCune? Parts of your fossil look like the proximal radials in their diagrams, but I haven't looked closely enough, and I'm just learning as I go. Great find, and I'm glad you're healing. Fossildude19 Posted March 29, 2012 Author Share Posted March 29, 2012 An interesting update (I thought) to my interesting find: Two months after finding these, I found the other half of the fossil which shows the "radials", or pterygiophores. (fin attachment bones.) And, oddly enough, this one does NOT show the bones,... which indicates to me that the explosion of decompositional gasses was only on one side of the fish, (it's left side). I love when I can find different parts of the same fossil at different times. Thanks for looking.
