sixgill pete
Well, I went to the Martin Marietta quarry in Onslow County NC again Friday. morning. This is fast becoming my favorite local quarry and not just because it is only about 20 minutes from the house. I have been finding some great Rics and some very nice smaller teeth lately there, and the colors of the teeth are incredible. While I didn't find another of the great Rics yesterday, I did find a decent one, along with a few more decent teeth and a plate full of shammer's. I also found what I believe is a part of a nautilus, along with several sand dollars and some echnoids that need prepping. I also found something I am not sure about and will post it in the ID section. he quarry there is part of the Castle Hayne formation. It is Eocene with reworked Pleistocene layers that contain cretaceous through Pleistocene material. I have found several very worn reworked megs there, but have yet to find a complete good one. They are there Ric Striatolamia macrota? Galeocerdo latidens? some of the shammer's: half of a Squalicorax, the largest one I have seen from there: Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022

squalicorax
Love that nautiloid. Need to get one of them myself some day. Is the shells numerous or are they all mostly broken up like the teeth? The tooth with the cusps in the second post looks like one i found in texas, cretolamna. Tarheel59
Don love those teeth colors and great finds as usual. That place is on my bucket list for this year if possible.. sixgill pete
squali, most of the shells are broken up or heavily crusted with limestone. This is the first nautiloid I have found, I also found another yesterday in matrix. I normally do not find echnoids and sand dollars there, but there was a new pile that was heavy in shells, so I thought it was cool to find this stuff. Are you talking about he one with one or two cusps? MikeDOTB
Hey Don nice finds once again. You have uncannny luck at that place! 95% of the stuff I have found there was broken. But I have seen others find some amazing stuff from that place. Some people just have great luck at certain spots I guess. How long do you usually spend hunting there during a day? DO, or do not. There is no try.

siteseer
As I understand it, when you sort out a big pile of mako teeth from a Middle or Late Eocene locality in the U.S., you can find jaw positions of what appears to be two different species: praecursor and americanus. I don't have, nor have I seen, many Eocene mako teeth from U.S. sites so I can't say. It's a question for Gordon Hubbell or Jim Bourdon. Hasn't Isurus praecursor been reclassified as Macrorhizodus amaricana
