jimsherri
Feb 15th, Took a trip to Caledon Natural Area State Park Va, on the potomac river for those of you out there the fee to get in is $2.00 weekdays $3.00 weekends and the bathrooms open and heated...Its about a two mile hike to get to the river, I won't take the time to post pics of the small teeth we found you might not be able to see them.. about 1/2 hour before sunset i told my wife time to go so we wouldn't have to walk back in the dark. WE started up the trail and i heard her yell out something .. she said the tooth Goddess was shinning down on her. here's a few pics she just seen a small part of the root sticking out of the sand on the trail.. i think it might be a otodus obliqus 1.5 inches long... hokiehunter
Nice find. Congrats. Caledon is on my list of parks to visit at some point aside from the shark tooth possibilities it just looks like a cool park to hike. Glad you were able to make it pay. MikeDOTB
Yep, definitely looks like Otodus! Great find. It's funny how sometimes you find the best tooth on the way out. DO, or do not. There is no try.
-Andy-
That's a nice-looking tooth. Maybe I should pray to the Tooth Goddess too... Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday! jimsherri
Thanks all for looking, by the way i was told by my wife to make room in the display case for her tooth.. The case is full don't you know it is bad luck to remove a tooth and put it in a box some where stored away.. they all have a story to tell from the tooth goddess ... so i did my tooth dance and the goddess said go to the store, I picked up a small display case for her teeth in the scratched and dent sec.. $3.99 the goddess told me the next time we go tooth hunting i will find a can of black spray paint to touch up the frame with... Sharkbyte
Now that's funny! Thanks Boneman007, If I'm not good for anything else, and I usually am not, I'm good for a laugh. It's always been that way really. Ever since I was born. It started with the Dr. and nursing staff. jimsherri
Well if your are looking to save money look for old pic frames you might have ,I like to remove the glass that way you can use some kind of mount were you might want to be able to remove your teeth at some point... here's a pic of a picture frame i removed the glass and added 1/8 inch foam board glued it on ran some small wire through the foam board and twisted it.. the fossils on the left are stone and heavy and i did not want them to fall off .. fossils on the right i used what i call sticky dots on the back.. i have change them over to wire the dots did not work to well.. Or the pic on the right i removed the glass and found use for some of my small teeth...
Boneman007
I love the conversations from newish fossil hunters asking how to display stuff! In a few years they will be like us old farts. Stage 1: Too many fossils to prep, let alone display. Stage 2: Too many fossils to display, let alone ID. Stage 3: Too many fossils to ID, let alone sort. Stage 4: Inane mumbling when in the garage about prepping, displaying, IDing, and sorting the fossils in all the boxes in the garage. Stage 5: I don't know... I'm stuck in stage 4! Raptordude1
Well I already have too many fossils to display. I'd just like to put together a couple of displays to show good examples of shark teeth from the area. Right now i'm having trouble figuring out how to store all of them. I think at stage five you probably fall over dead or you are crushed by your boxes of fossils because you are now a hoarder.
Lloyd
Last year we moved to a new house where I've been able to dedicate a fairly large room to my collection... so, for the first time, I have everything I want to display out of boxes/drawers and on shelves. Now I just need to collect a few more new formations so I can fill that room up and begin to talk the wife into a second room! Nice tooth, by the way, the Fossil Goddess was smiling. When I find a nice one at the end of the day, I end up staying way past dark looking for the match that must be there...
