FossilForKids
OK......well it use to be an ocean.......300 million years ago! Hey it's Arizona....we got beach......just no water Anyway as I was driving about an hour to a crinoid spot I know I encountered evidence of some seriously bored Bubbas! This cactus is at least 25 feet tall and to get those tires (one car and one motorcycle) on that hook they had to toss them about 20 feet up in the air. I had to smile at a vision of a couple of frustrated hunters in full cammo, going through a twelve pack of Bud saying... we can do this. Well after that chuckle I arrived at this wide wash which had cut through the devonian Martin formation and on the walls and banks are crinoid sections and various brachiapods. Many of them turn a nice read chert color. Nothing spectacular but it's cool walking the desert and finding ancient marine life. Also in honor of valentines day her are some crinoid flowers.
