Dig It
I spent half day at the Snake Pit. This quarry location was interesting because the gypsum layer usually laying flat horizontally below the fossil layer was turned up 90 degrees vertical. The teeth normally laying horizontal in other quarrry locations, were exposed vertically in the wall so they face you directly. There are a lot of mini geologoc faults in this area which is probably the force at work here. Attached are a couple of the wall finds I worked - the largest tooth in the photos was a 2 1/4 inch Mako. Yes the digging was hard, but you gotta love the feeling when a new find is exposed, and I always have fun on these trips. - Dig It
