trempie4
So I mapped out my customer travels for Tuesday and Wednesday and saw that my 11 hours of drive time was going to take me somewhat near the famous St. Claire site. Regrettably my newly purchased wrecking bar and I ended up there at 4 pm so time and opportunity was limited. I meandered until I found the site, only one wrong turn thank you very much, found a spot someone else had been digging out and commenced operation fern plate. Long story short, no plates miraculously popped out of the earth to greet me. Within 30 minutes I gave up on that spot and explored the rest of the site where I found the excavation pits of a real pro. We know who he is, you could have buried a body or two in his excavation. Well done I say, real commitment. The next time I am remotely close I am dedicating 5 hours of my life to two excavation pits. Perhaps a plate will await my efforts. Below are the frags I grabbed from the efforts of others. Their castaways were my prizes! All in all a cool spot, a bit of a combo of Blair Witch and Fallujah on Ramadan with the nearness of the shooting range, the liquor store and some over enthusiastic locals! Note: The masked bandit did not greet me at the site but he cracks me up everytime! Joe... (evolution ROCKS....)

Fossildude19
Yeah, I hear you Trempie. We New Englanders are a tight lipped bunch. They're here, ... just takes allot of hard work to find 'em . trempie4
I had 4 neighbors when I lived on a 5 acre parcel in RI. I only met one of them in 5 years. When I moved to Richmond VA my neighbors unloaded my truck, fed me and then took me out for beers...... Hmmmmmm Joe... (evolution ROCKS....) Fossildude19
That doesn't go for all of us, but, on the whole, we in New England do tend to be in a hurry and more, um,... private, if you will,... than our neighbors to the south and west. I blame the pilgrims. Let me know if you're ever in the neighborhood, I'll try to let you see the more hospitable side of the North East. Kehbe
I'm game for a hunt, just let me know when!! Nice fern finds! One mans trash is another mans treasure! It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change. Sharkbyte
Hello Trempie4, Even though those fossils were not the fossils you went seeking, from my point of view, you done good! I have been extended several invitations for a personal tour of the St. Claire site if ever I can make a vacation trip to PA. Nice finds. Lloyd
Not too shabby for such a limited time at the site. That's my method also... going through the castoff's of others, splitting the plates that look splittable. I've been there five times now < in just over a year of living in PA > but have not yet worked up the energy to get to any serious rock busting since, so far, what I've found just lying around have been plenty nice enough for me. Sharkbyte: let me add my name to the invitation list should you ever make it up this way. My mother lives near the SC border in NC, and I try to make it down there 3 to 4 times a year, so I'd be totally up for a "fossil guide" exchange.
