Serious Isurus And Mini Meg

Sharks of SC

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

As some of you may have read, Martijn and a few of his friends from Norway came through the states last on a fossil-hunting expedition. I was very honored to host this group for three days of hunting here on various beaches in Charleston Harbor. The finds the first two days were slow - a few nice Carcharocles angustiden, broken Alopiads, Hempristis serra, etc. On the third day, however, Martiln and I set down a particularly productive beach where a lot of larger teeth were found. My only notable find was an enormous Isururs desori. At 2.5", this tooth sits as the new center of the mako case. Despite a little wear on the labial surface of the crown, the tooth is intact and has an incredibly solid root.

Additionally, I found a very small, juvenile posterior meg...my smallest to date measuring in at just .47".

All-in-all, a good time was had by everyone. I came away with a new record small and large, and everyone else managed some nice finds of their own (which I'm sure you'll see soon :) hint hint, lol).

Anyways, enjoy the pictures and as always...

Happy Hunting!!

Yes, you can find them but they are much less common than isurus hastalis. Wish they weren't. They are one of my favorite teeth.

CBK, that desori is awesome. My largest is about 2 1/8, so kudos on your find. And that baby meg. Thanks for sharing both of them.

Awesome finds! I like the I. Hastilis, but the narrow tooth varieties (especially the big ones) are really cool looking. They look like giant sand tiger to me except with really beefy roots.

Cade,

Once again your eagle-eyes have won the day! ;)

Congratulations on some killer teeth - and good on ya for leading the hunt for the visitors!

Well done.

Hello Cade,

Good to see your makohas made it to the forum B)

Awesome find, when only a part of the root was showing in the sand.

Here are some of "my" finds, hahaha. That is with the help of Cade's eyesight LOL :D

The first one is quite a large GW, that made my day.

More stuff will follow soon....
