Gmr Micro Material

Back on the 2nd of this month I hunted GMR (Greenville,NC) Pliocene- Cretaceous fossils reworked via stream. I also took home a couple pounds of Micro sands. I have not gone through it all yet. Here is just a sample of what I did find so far. It is really hard on these old eyes too. Hope you enjoy and can also tell me the ID on the ray tooth?? also have a smallest vert in the group shot. It was cool to find it. Now I need to get some of the magnifying mounts to put a couple of these small finds in ... :) Thanks for looking. Jeff/Tarheel

I've thought of doing that but haven't yet. You really need to check out Aurora Jeff.

Micro coolnitude! We seem to be on a roll with this eye-straining discipline; definitely worth the effort!

Thanks for ID Al Dente, Rick I had wanted to get a bucket of stuff from GMR but wet=heavy and this ole back cannot haul that back up that path. :) so I settled on a plastic grocery bag full in my backpack and that was heavy. YeahI need to make a trip to Aurora and get me a couple buckets...:)

Thanks Auspex/Chas strains these ole eyes too. Have to rest after an hour or so start seeing things... :) Jeff/Tarheel

I have brought a few baggies full out of there Jeff. Most of what I have found has been very worn and not worth the time and eye strain to me for searching. However those pharyngeal's you found are pretty cool. By the way, I have that bucket of Aurora material for you that you had asked me about, to bad about the rain last Friday. But it will be here whenever we manage to get together for another hunt.

Final tally out of a 3/4 coffee can of GMR micro material is below although I did pick some other teeth out as I was screening that were easy enough to spot with the naked eye. Some nice colors on some of the teeth too. Enjoy thanks Jeff/Tarheel

first pic hard to see the amazing color and details on this with a camera, much cooler in person in color.

great to see other sites micro material Jeff, though it is often an annoying kind of hunting, (on the eyes, back and neck, all the washing, the drying, hey come to think of it, this is as hard as working with the sledgehammer and chisel!)

this gravel doesn't look bad to search, there are sure to be prizes... thanks for sharing it.

Thanks Carmine, the gravel/sand is lots of small pebbles about the size of rice and then the sand not so bad to get rid of. Not sure how every one else does it I used a small window screen mesh to wash the material on and then left it out to dry for a few days. Still had some larger sand cobbles in it as well as the rice sized creek rocks plus small pieces of bone and what not.. Thanks for looking. :) Jeff/Tarheel

(edit) the micro material from Aurora is probally less the small rice sized pebbles, probally alot more sandy material in it... At least the pics I have seen of it appear that way..
