Life 42 Posted March 15, 2012 Share Posted March 15, 2012 Everyone deserves a mental health day and so with Mike on Spring Break from school, I took the day off! The weather here is nothing short of amazing; 80 degrees, sunny and a slight breeze. :bbq: The fossil gods shined down with the sun today and we were left speechless by lunch. My 3rd Notorynchus lower symphyseal tooth, and dare I say the best, presented right away. We have another sea monster coming out of this layer as well. Hopefully you guys can assist with what parts of the skeleton we have but we’ve got some gluing and piecing to do before displaying. The shark teeth were numerous, the usual gang of Hemi’s, Makos, Tigers, Cowsharsk and more. And of course the larger chubs and super tiny meg(?) rounded out the haul. There were cetacean teeth, a larger squaladon (root in tack, tip broken) and even a worn white croc tooth. I believe I have another bramble tooth but it is worn a bit on one side . There are a few ‘whatsits’ in there we aren’t sure of but they caught our eye. One is in the picture with the possible bramble – take a look. Needless to say our trip down to the waterfall was a perfect date day for us . Its hard to say which symphesial tooth you have found is better, but I think your previous one is in more perfect condition but both teeth are incredibly fantastic so I guess there would really be no wrong answer! I am not too sure if the new "bramble shark" tooth is actually bramble shark. It might be, but kind of looks like a broken cow shark tooth as well. What really strikes my curiousity is the picture of the two carcharocles teeth. The one on the right has really pronounced cusps for a chub, it looks a lot older. I guess it could be a chub, but I have seen auriculatus teeth that look just like that. But I dont think you have found/mentioned eocene material at this location right? I am by far no expert and still in newbie status. The newest symphesial has great color and I agree the bramble is questionable. I think I'm still a bigger fan of the 2nd symph you found a few weeks ago simply for the symmetry but as said above... I'd be happy with any one of them. Love that mini meg too.
