sixgill pete
I went there in the late 60's or early 70's and I really do not remember much about it. But know you have me wanting to try to find some old pictures. Missourian
Great vintage photos. The logs are still there within the national park boundaries. Wonderful place. Context is critical.
markm
I remember going there around 1970 with my family, on a massive road trip in a car without air conditioning! This trip inspired a lifetime of fossil mania. Thanks for bringing back those memories!
old dead things
I'd like to see a now photo to compare with the then photo. I've always liked to look at those/these kind of photos. Many years ago I did a project for a photography class taking pictures of now and using an older photo for comparison. In many instances it was difficult to get the shot from the same angle and in many cases the roadways from which the pictures were taken had disappeared or been turned into super highways...............alas, I ramble. t-tree
Two beautiful photographs of the petrified forest from the 50's and the car is cool too. What make is the car? Cheers John Be happy while you're living for you're a long time dead.
thanatocoenosis
Nice photos! Is that you and your parents? What make is the car? It appears to be an early 50s Chevy Deluxe 2012 NCAA Collegiate Round Ball Champs; and in '98, '96, '78, 58, '51, '49, and '48, too.

Kehbe
Great pictures! I too went there as a kid in 1971. Having recently watched the moon shot in '69', I remember thinking at the time that it looked like what I thought the moon surface looked like! My wife and I were at the petrified forest just a year or so ago and it actually looks surprisingly similar still! It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change. Taxman56
Whats really a shame was that at the turn of the century a lot of those logs were shipped off to be turned into sandpaper before the Feds stop it.
