John Hamilton
I woke up at 4:00 AM Saturday morning and couldn't go back to sleep so I decided to make another trip to GMR before the rain returned to eastern NC. My first stop near the cemetery on 5th Street. The hunt started out with bang when a very worn but complete P. benedini appeared in my screen. After 30 more minutes of sifting with no other finds I decided it was time to try another location. I chose to visit the spot that Tarheel59 aka Jeff hunted the previous weekendto see if he left anything for me. My 2nd screen at this spot produced a decent Mako with a nice brown color so I was pretty excited. Between the heat and extremely high humidity I only lasted a couple of hours but it was productive. To go along with the Mako, I found a couple of nice Tiger's, a squalicorax p., what I beleive is a plesiosaur tooth and some type of a fish thingy. 1. Group Shot 2. Fish looking thingy? 3. Squali 4. Modern Tigers 5. Mako Update: 2. Cephalic Hook from a Hybodont type shark Edited April 23, 2012 by John Hamilton

Sharks of SC
Not so sure that one tooth is a benedeni, looks like a well-worn meg to me. Really nice coloring on that mako, nice finds!
RickNC
I don't think that is a beni. Find a lot of whatever they are though.
Carl
2 is very cool: it's the cepahlic hook of a hybodont shark. And 7 ain't no plesiosaur: it's the sawfish Ischyrhiza. Very nice stuff!

Meg or P. benedini? I'll take either one at this point.

Very nice stuff! I'll agree with cepahlic hook on #2 but no way is #7 a saw fish rostral tooth. It is serrated on both sides. PaleoRon
Decent finds. The "benedini" is a badly worn meg and the "plesiosaur" is the blade of a sawfish rostral, Ischyrhiza mira.

Ok, It looks like sawfish rostral is the recurring theme for #7 but I have just never seen one that had serrations on it. I'll accept badly worn Meg for #6 as sugested previously too. John Hamilton
Cephalic hook huh? I wonder how much good stuff I've tossed back? Finding things like that are why I can't make myself quit using my 1/4" screen. All the neat stuff I find would normally fall through a 1/2"screen. Tarheel59
John I had a small 1/4 inch screen and it was coming undone, so I had to replace the mesh. I started out with a 1/2 and the cut a 1/4 mesh to lie in over the top of that. I wire tied the screens in place. The 1/4 is only tied to one side so I can flip it over if I only want to screen larger material. So far has worked great. I screened for a while using the 1/4 over the 1/2. The changed formats by flipping out the 1/4 and only using the 1/2... Jeff I noticed that using the 1/2 I catch all the big stuff and can resift some of the stuff that fell through using 1/4 worked great but alas not enough time in the day to make a huge dent anywhere...Ohh check out my post Sunny day on GMR I added some larger stuff bones, pet wood clam impressions etc.. I am happy using the 1/2, but I know a lot is falling through.
