Short Kansas Cretaceous Hunt

Since I was out west on business, I made a point to hit some cretaceous ground. I believe I was in the Greenhorn limestone.

I don't have much of a trip report, as I spent most of the time on one small spot. I initially stopped there first because I'd been there before and thought I'd pick up some Inoceramus and Ammonite mold pieces. Then I intended on scouting for more cuts. But what kept me there longer than I planned was finding another first for me (X2).

I have an in situ shot of the second one I found, because I picked the first one up before I realized what it was.

Anyway, here are my first ptychodus teeth! :D

And the little area they were found.

Nice pictures. It is amazing what can be hidden in a little patch of rocky dirt.

Thanks guys, it was well worth the extra miles, bearing the heat, and I couldn't wait to get home just to stare at them for awhile.

Nice haul.

I had to spend a day scrambling over vast badlands just to find as many teeth. :)

Thanks Missourian, Nala, and Tim!

A shout out to Ramo as well. His gracious invitation last year, and tips on what to look for were useful in hunting unfamiliar territory. He and his family are a class act!

Unfortunately, I didn't get to hook up with him this time, but I'm sure I will again sometime, and the report will be even better!

Yeah, first finds are always the most exciting (well and really cool finds). They look very nice to!

Love those Greenhorn Ptychodus. They seem to almost always be in perfect condition.

One of these days Steve, our schedules will work out and we'll get out there and find some cool stuff.

(I might have a new "secret" spot I could take you to next time you are out)
