Fun Time With The Fossiljunkie

Had a blast this past Mon when Tom and his brother Jim came up from Georgia for a hunt in the Bangor of Tennessee! I took them to my usual haunt - an abandoned limestone quarry near my house. They found some awesome Upper Mississippian inverts and a couple sharks teeth! But I'll let them show what they got when they're ready to. I brought home some of the crinoidal matrix to go through in my spare time (i.e. at work ;) ) I haven't gone through it all yet but Ive found some cool stuff.

Mostly its brachs, but theres a first for me too..

A calcite replaced spirifer! This is the first spirifer Ive found with both valves articulated at this site! For some reason its usually just one valve. This one is kinda small and not in perfect shape but Im happy. Its completely crystal!

A nice example of the large flat brach. They tend to be found pressed in such a way as to conform with the irregularities in the matrix. Its rare to find a perfect flat one.

Hi Jim, those brachs are real nice. I dont know that I ever ran across any of the Spirifers in the field but that one is real nice. The Orthotedes sp brings back a fond memory of collecting those in Kentucky--just decided to jump down one of those country road 75' embankments to investigate and lets just say it was one of those fearless maneuvers that in hindsight wasnt a very smart move on my part and I never would consider again, but I found fossils! Thanks really! I had forgotten that good time! I wish I still had a few to of those to share or at least some photos of that excursion...

Nice haul! Continued success out there! Thanks
