squalicorax
Hey all. Some good tips for finding fossil sites using google earth and some KMZ files to fully extrapolate the most of google earth has to offer. First off everyone should be aware of the KMZ/KML files available at http://tin.er.usgs.gov/geology/state/ click your state and download the appropriate kml/kmz file or view in the web browser. Another tool, noted to me by my geophysics professor, is QUADS http://www.metzgerwillard.us/quads/quads.html This KMZ file adds a USGS topographic map layer to your google earth. I find this coupled with the Bedrock geologic maps to be critical in locating new outcrops or potential private land owner requests. Have fun. If you have any questions about google earth let me know.! My Flickr Page of My Collection: http://www.flickr.com/photos/79424101@N00/sets
Bullsnake
Thanks, squalicorax! When I have a little time this evening/weekend, I'll delve into this and check it out. I have no doubt questions will be forthcoming . I'm pretty much computerly challenged ! Steve
