howard_l
.I visited Lewis Co. KY near the Ohio River and collected in the lower Mississippian units in that area. I first stopped at some Silurian outcrops. The Silurian in this area is either a gray shale or a highly dolomitic limestone. Other than a few brachiopods I found nothing. Thank God for the Mississippian, I collected 6 Muensteroceras, amminoids. I also collected two coiled nautiloids, one small Stroboceras and a large one Solenocheilus. This is the first time I have found Solenocheilus in this area it is very distinctive and I have found them in lower Mississippian outcrops across KY. In Rowan, and Madison Counties in KY. Auspex
Very neat; we don't see these every day!
