mikeymig
I was at one of my favorite collecting sites this past week and decided that I was going to collect the large pieces of shale/limestone that were stuck on the side of the gully. These pieces were lodged behind trees or just because of their weight, hadnt made it the 80' to the bottom of the gully yet. I find cool fossils on the edge of the stream at the bottom of this gully but many are weathered or incomplete so I thought that this time I would go to the source. Good thing I dont smoke and I eat like a super model cuz I climbed up and down this steep gully about a dozen times this day. I was rewarded with a complete crinoid calyx in matrix, 8 very nice gastropods, about 8lbs. in HUGE crinoid stems, giant trilobite parts, and very well preserved corals & brachiopods. However, I did have to call it a day when part of one slab I was working on slid and wheeled down the gully taking out a large pine tree on its way. At first I was like coool then my little angel said "Dude, this is kinda dangerous". The rocks are from the Middle Devonian and were easy to work thanks to mother nature and father time. mikey Many times I've wondered how much there is to know. led zeppelin

Auspex
I have an image in my mind of you "surfing" down the gully wall on a huge slab...kinda' like the last scene in Dark Star (know the movie?). mikeymig
I have an image in my mind of you "surfing" down the gully wall on a huge slab...kinda' like the last scene in Dark Star (know the movie?). First-class finds! Ha. Dont know the movie but when I googled Dark Star it showed a guy "surfing" on some kind of slab. When I was collecting I actually thought that if this rock starts to go Im riding it down. Im pretty sure it would have slid and not tumbled because the slope was made of soft soil and leaves and the slab was the size of my bed. Auspex
Why are these gone? My chief complaint about off-site photo hosting; we cannot archive what is merely linked, and topics can be rendered moot.
